Everyone either thinks they know it all when it comes to festivals, or know they know nothing. This one goes out to all those festival Jon Snow’s in particular but even a seasoned pro may pick up a tip or two here. Let’s crack on then:

1# DO start off small…

… if you are brand new to the festival life, book in to just a single festival the first year or take a baby step with a one day festival such as Community Festival London, Slam Dunk Festival or others.

2# DON’T pack anything non-essential…

… The more you take, the more your pack weighs, the more you regret taking 4 books, the extra 3 coats and the kitchen sink. Check out our last blog post for a festival checklist.

3# DO dress the part, it’s not a fashion show…

… it’s a rainy, muddy brawl with incredible music (that’s why we go right?) Take practical clothes, a rain mac, a sun hat and light clothing.

4# DON’T overdo it on the booze…

… Not to sound like your mother but if you end up blind drunk at the end of the night and walking through a sea of tents you are going to have one heck of time finding yours. Plus, throwing up in your tent is never a good thing.

5# DO take a wheelbarrow or trolley…

… Do it, seriously, you can thank us later when you are shattered walking across a field.

6# DON’T wear jeans when it’s raining…

…Heavy denim and water creates some super moist, impractical trousers. The best clothing for rain is actually shorts; lightweight and your legs dry faster than any clothing.

7# DO your research before hand…

… Figure out your day to maximise the amount of bands you can see. Listen to new  artists and fill in the gaps in your schedule with even more great tunes and get your money’s worth.

8# DON’T waste phone battery…

…we know how much you love to take snaps of your favourite artists when you get to the front of the crowd, make sure you use power saving settings and take a portable charger if you can.

9# DO take sensible footwear…

….you are going to be on your feet for a long, long time and not to dampen your spirits but it will with all likihood, rain. Not that a bit of rain will put you off. You need two pairs of shoes; willies and walking boots, walking boots for general use and then willies for that torrential rain and the random mud puddles that appear even when it is scorching hot.

That is our Festival Do’s and Don’ts as it stands but we could go on for ages…so stay tuned for a part 2!
